]]>Still - it's normal for the body to change and adapt to the weather!
Aches are often the result of changes in barometric pressure and falling temperatures. The pressure can cause your tendons and joints to swell, while the lower temperatures can cause your blood vessels to contract, leading to reduced blood flow.
Dryness often occurs when low-humidity air saps moisture from your skin. In some cases this can cause the skin to start turning white, flake, or even crack.
Dragon Blood Balm can be helpful during these times, on its own or as a compliment to your existing skin-care routine.
For cracks and dryness, our herbs and base oils help accelerate the healing process. Meanwhile, beeswax locks in your body's existing moisture from being sapped away.
For aches, herbs such as dragon blood resin, mugwort, and safflower can increase micro-circulation and plant-derived menthol helps with localized pain, offsetting the aches from barometric pressure.
This makes Dragon Blood Balm an effective "all-in-one" balm for the changing weather.
Many people end up using multiple skin care solutions, including during the winter. We support that!
However, it's important to understand how different topicals work when using them together:
Dragon Blood Balm is an oil and wax-based topical. If you use so we recommend applying it on top of any alcohol/oil/lotion based cremes and below any wax-based solutions.
Happy wintering!

Working with local communities is an important part of being a small business. Not only does it create a sense of rootedness, but it also helps uplift communities by investing back in the places that helped you thrive and creates opportunities for others. And so unlike many large corporations, Dragon Blood Balm both participates in and donates back into the communities within which we operate.
That's why we're excited to participate in the Triangle Rock Club's Climbathon in Raleigh, North Carolina. Like our previous donations in New York City, we're again excited to bridge two things that are near and dear for us: climbing and helping kids.
Here's what that entails:
Together on October 30th we will be climbing for five straight hours with just 30 minutes of rest to see what team can log the most ascents. As Team Dragon Blood Balm, this will help raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Durham and Orange Counties.
Your support will directly help youth through The Boys & Girls Clubs of Durham and Orange Counties (BGCDOC), a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and protecting children while preserving the beauty and innocence of childhood. "We aim to make a fundamental difference in the lives of all youth, but especially those who need guidance the most by providing a safe alternative for youth between the ages of 6 and 18."
Team Dragon Blood Balm is led by our cofounder Boris Bernadsky, and supported by local Raleigh climbers. In addition to donating directly, Dragon Blood Balm will be donating 15% of all sales from October 1-30 to support this effort.

Update, November 22:
Over the course of October, we were able to raise more than $1,000 as Team Dragon Blood Balm, including donations from online orders and personal donations, and more than $20,000 as part of the full climbathon. We climbed hard, raised money, and did a marathon of ascents.
Thank you to everyone who participated!
Twelve days ago, we asked you to help New York, our hometown.
With your donations, we raised $825! This allowed us to purchase:
While it might be easy to write off $825 compared to Apple's 10-million-masks promise and major manufacturers switching their production lines to ventilators, every little bit counts. When supplies run critically low, it's not the 10-million that get you through the day, it's the one or two that are immediately available.
For everyone who donated, Boris and I want to say THANK YOU!! For everyone who wrote to us with encouragement, thank you as well! It's a scary time, but we will get through it together, even if togetherness means being 6 feet or 6 miles or 6 time zones away.
Your support means a lot.

PS. Still hoping to help out? You can do three things: First, make sure you practice proper health & hygiene - wash your hands, try not to go out too often, and cover yourself when you do go. Second, reach out to see how you can help locally - it could be your local hospital and doctor, it could be donating to a food bank, it could be checking in on your friends and neighbors to make sure they're ok. Last, support small and medium-sized businesses by buying directly from them. These businesses employ locally and keep money rotating within their community. If a business doesn't sell anything, it can't pay payroll, and that ends up affecting everyone. By shopping locally, we can keep people employed.
We've been busy.
And in a good way. This coming Thursday, we're excited to launch in our first New York City location... at one of our favorite climbing gyms, Steep Rock West.
As part of the launch, Boris, our CEO and Chief Chemist, will be running a Chinese Medicine/Self-Care for Climbers workshop at 7:30-8:30 PM. A $5 registration fee will get you the workshop, a Dragon Blood Balm sample, and climbing for the rest of the night.
