Our Ingredients

Uncommon and natural ingredients that help your body heal faster and stronger.

100% Natural, 0% Synthetic

Dragon Blood Balm is made with 14 uncommon herbs, roots, oils, plant resins, and beeswax.

We buy raw ingredients and transform them into Dragon Blood Balm ourselves. We're always seeking out the highest quality ingredients, and every ingredient has a purpose.

That means no harsh chemicals, parabens, sulfates, phthalates, silicones, aluminum, or filler waxes.

A Relentless Pursuit of Quality

It's like the difference between a cup of instant coffee versus freshly roasted, freshly ground coffee.

By buying fresh, whole ingredients, and then grinding and processing them ourselves in small batches, we remain in control of quality and can adjust our batches for the idiosyncrasies of each ingredient. Then, we get to pass along that quality to you.

That’s the secret to making a good product: no cutting corners! 🤫

  • Sanguis Draconis

    Dragon Blood Resin

    (Xue Jie | Sanguis Draconis)

Our namesake ingredient, which gets its name from the deep red sap produced by the tree. Used traditionally for traumatic injuries and treating sores, it also works great for beaten-up hands and for helping broken skin heal.

  • Myrrh

    Myrrh

    (Mo Yao | Resina Myrhhae)

Used in a variety of medicinal cultures around the world, Myrrh works in conjunction with Dragon Blood and Frankincense for skin rejuvenation and wound treatment, as well as showing promise for antifungal effects.

  • Frankinsense

    Frankinsense

    (Ru Xiang | Olibanum)

Similarly to Myrrh, Frankincense has a long history of medicinal use across cultures and works alongside Myrrh and Dragon Blood to help with skin healing and wound treatment.

  • Organic Beeswax

    Beeswax

Our only non-plant-based ingredient, Beeswax forms the base of our balm. It's also a powerhouse of its own, helping with a variety of dry-skin conditions, and used for mild pain relief and as an anti-inflammatory.

  • Arnebia Lithospermi

    Arnebia Root

(Zi Cao | Radix Arnebiae seu Lithospermi)

Traditionally used in burn creams; great for helping heal damaged skin. There are many formulas where this is the only herb used
(alongside beeswax and sesame oil). We’ve found that this herb is incredible at healing burns, damaged, and dry skin.

  • Mugwort

    Mugwort

    (Ai Ye | Artemisia Vulgaris)

This herb increases blood flow and stops pain. It is used traditionally for joint pain that gets worse with cold weather. We use
it for addressing the potential chronic complications in the finger joints from sports such as rock climbing.

  • Sappan Wood

    Sappan Wood

    (Su Mu | Lignum Sappan)

Similar to Dragon Blood, Myrrh, and Frankinsense, Sappan Wood helps with skin repair and wound treatment. Sappan wood also works particularly well for penetrating deeply into tendons and ligaments.

  • Safflower

    Safflower

    (Hong Hua | Flos Carthami)

Safflower increases blood circulation, relieves pain, and reduces inflammation. It has been used in almost every traditional trauma formula and is particularly helpful for joint pain and rheumatism.

  • Angelica Sinensis

    Angelica Sinesis

    (Dang Gui | Angelica Sinesis)

A flowering plant that improves blood circulation, which in turn accelerates skin healing.

  • Angelica Dahuricae

    Angelica Dahurica

(Bai Zhi | Radix Angelicae Dahuricae)

The root of the angelica dahurica herb helps joints disperse fluid accumulation and brings down swelling.

  • Astralagus

    Astragalus

    (Huang Qi | Astragalus propinquus)

An antioxidant-rich plant, astragalus helps repair cells and introduces anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

  • Plant-Derived Menthol Crystals

    Plant-Derived Menthol Crystals

(Bo He Nao | Herba Menthae Pipperata)

Distilled naturally from a variety of mints, crystal menthol is a great topical pain reliever and anti-inflammatory. It also masks some of the less familiar smells of the other herbs.

  • Hempseeds

    Hemp Seed Oil

One of our base oils, hemp seed oil contains beneficial omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. It helps with dry skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, as well as reduces inflammation associated with pain and rheumatism.

  • Jojoba

    Jojoba Oil

Our second base oil, jojoba is a popular addition to many skin-care routines for good reason: it helps with wound healing, acne (with antibacterial effects), dry skin (with skin-absorbable Vitamin E), and stimulating collagen production. Because it's molecularly a wax, it blends well with beeswax. And because jojoba is one of the few botanicals most similar to the oils naturally produced by the human body, it helps with the absorption of all of our other ingredients.
